Does an empty stratum say anything?
Bedrock will be bare for a long time. Unsure whether that reads as honesty or as a bug.
If notes are the only sprites in a stratum, then a zone with nothing in it is bare rock and empty sky.
Bedrock will be like that for a while — that’s the point of the scale, since almost nothing should qualify as settled early on. And there’s a reading where that’s the best thing on the site: you scroll down through progressively fewer ideas until you reach a foundation that is honestly, visibly empty.
But there’s another reading where a visitor scrolls into a blank dark rectangle and concludes the page failed to load.
I don’t know which one it is, and I suspect I can’t know until someone who isn’t me looks at it. Possible hedges, none of which I love:
- a line of text in an empty zone — but the whole design avoids text in the strata
- leave some scenery in the empty zones, so they’re never truly bare
- let the depth gauge show counts, so the emptiness is stated rather than implied
